Huhhot City carrying out “emigrant”
projects
[ News
from Xinhua News, translation by Enhebatu Togochog] Along with
the escalating destruction of the ecology, there emerged many
groups of “environmental refugees” in Inner Mongolia. Aimed at
the problem, the Inner Mongolian authorities have carried out
the “Enlarging Towns for Emigrants” project for the past year.
According to sources, this year Inner Mongolia has chosen 22
banners and counties from the region as experimental units for
the project. Among those units, Wu-Chuan County and
Qing-Shui-He County, both belonging to Huhhot City, have been
dealing with 800 individuals representing 200 families. The
villages where these people lived are no longer suitable for
habitation due to the ecological destruction. New villages for
these poor people will be built in Wu Chuan County’s Ke-Zhen
Town and Qing-Shui-He County’s Lamiin-bolong Town.
According to officials from Huhhot City’s Help-The-Poor
Office, so far, relevant authorities have already started the
construction of residences, schools and roadways in nearby
areas. Officials said that Huhhot City is planning to carry
out larger emigration projects by stages and batches.
