HOHHOT,

The
Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region has become the third largest
coal producer and the largest coal production base in western
China.
Statistics show that the region produced a record 112.3
million tons of coal in 2002, an increase of 26 percent
year-on-year, and sold 111.6 million tons, up 36 percent. Its
industrial added value totaled 2.28 billion yuan, up 28. 5
percent.
A regional official attributed the good result to the
deepening of structural adjustment and deep processing of coal
products.
In 2002, the region sold 58 million tons of coal within the
region and 54 million tons to other parts of the country and
overseas.
