Joined with the May Day Parade, Southern Mongolian exiles and members of the Inner Mongolian People’s Party held a demonstration in Stockholm, Sweden, on May 1, 2006, to mark China’s 59 years occupation of Southern Mongolia. The demonstration started at 2:00 pm local time, and the protestors waved the Inner Mongolian People’s Party’s flag and banners of “Free Inner Mongolia”, “Release Hada”, “Return us our land”, and “Return us our freedom”, to strongly criticize the Chinese Government’s 59 years colonial regime in Southern Mongolia. Sympathizers and supporters of Southern Mongolian freedom activities also joined the demonstration to condemn the Chinese government’s heavy handed policy toward ethnic minorities in China.

The Inner Mongolian People’s Party (IMPP), named after the “New Inner Mongolian People’s Party” of the Cultural Revolution, was originally established in the United States in 1997 by exiled dissidents from Inner Mongolia. The IMPP’s mission is to “uphold the principles of democracy and peace in fighting to end the Chinese Communist Party’s colonial rule in Inner Mongolia and ultimately to achieve the independence of Inner Mongolia.” In order to gain broader supports from the international community and encourage overseas Southern Mongolian communities' active involvement, the IMPP has recently moved its headquarters from the United States to Japan.
